Weekend Buzz | Girls' Middle School Basketball Celebrates Successes
Also, a record-setting evening for BHS sports
Hello, Burlington!
Today, I want to introduce you to the BYBA Sixth Grade (White) Girls’ Basketball Team. This team has been tearing it up behind the scenes for the last two years, and they deserve some recognition for their hard work.
Last year as a Division 2 team, they had a very successful 18-2 season—so successful, in fact, that they were moved to Division 1! This is a huge move, and the girls are making the most out of it. They’re currently 5-2 on the season (with another game today) against teams like Billerica and Wilmington, and they won their last game against Beverly 35-30.
Coach Manny Ortiz reports that the girls are focused and use every practice as an opportunity to get better.
Congratulations on the promotion, and best wishes for a successful rest of the season!
Speaking of sports, we had a record-breaking night in Burlington sports. Junior Cedric Rodriguez set a school record of 10 3-pointers in last night’s 75-58 win against Melrose. Also, at yesterday’s Northeast Invitational Indoor Track & Field Meet, Elijah Wolinski set a new school pole vault record with 11’6”, a 1-foot improvement over his previous PR.
Also in basketball from yesterday, Varsity Girls beat Melrose 52-48. JV Girls won their game against Melrose as well!
On tap for today:
JV Boys played hockey this morning in Wakefield.
Varsity girls play Melrose at 2:15 at the Ice Palace.
Varsity boys are also at the Ice Palace, playing Bridgewater-Raynham at 4:30.
Varsity boys swim at 5:30 in Reading.
Wrestlers are at the Weymouth Invitational.
That’s all I’ve got for you. I hope you have a lovely day. Stay warm and dry!
Nicci
